Following a series of unprecedented disasters, the Dévoluy valley in the Hautes-Alpes seems to be split in two. Below, the village of Superdévoluy enjoys the last years of snow, while above, an astronomical observatory shines with its research into the origins of the world. The disconnect between these two utopias reveals the paradoxes of a society that is losing its way and raises questions about man’s place in the mountains and the universe.

Hugo Saugier, who grew up in the Hautes-Alpes mountains, moved to the city at 17 to study video editing and attend the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts de Paris-Cergy. He co-founded Échos, an improvised music festival broadcast by giant trumpets in a mountain valley with unique acoustics. The festival allows spectators to experience a dimension beyond the traditional concert experience.
